Area gas drops about a nickel to $2.68 range

April 6th, 2007

Louisville-area gasoline prices were about a nickel per gallon lower yesterday as oil prices held above $64 per barrel despite news of Iran’s release of 15 British sailors.

As work on Alberta’s oil sands booms, the slide in natural gas prices has meant a retreat in the face of high costs

With dwindling oil supplies, pollution concerns and the ever-present threat of gas prices soaring again, talk of new and better ways to fuel cars, heat and cool homes, and power factories has never been greater.
What’s more, the conversation is emanating increasingly from a source that’s been surprisingly quiet until recently — the oil companies themselves.
When [...]

To curb global warming, U.S. coal producers are adrift in choppy political seas

January 26th, 2007

The battle lines have been clearly drawn between the Democrats in Congress, a handful of major names in the international mining industry and the National Mining Association and its coal company members.
The Democrats’ victory in last year’s elections means Congress’s stance on environmental issues has changed dramatically. Gone is the champion of mining and big [...]

Union Pacific hauled 194 million tons of coal away from northeast Wyoming mines last year, the railroad reported Monday.
