The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. this week rose by seven from the week before. Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. will pay competitor National Oilwell Varco Inc.’s ReedHycalog division at least $100 million to settle a patent dispute.
