With little corporate news to focus on, London equities took their cue from Wall Street which managed a late rally overnight. The volatile mining and oil sectors made strong gains in London while broker upgrades added to the momentum.

U.K. stocks rose, led by BP Plc. Rio Tinto Group and BHP Billiton led a rally among mining companies.
