Dollar Mixed, Gold Up in Europe Trading

The dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday morning. Gold prices rose sharply.

The euro traded at $1.3090, down from $1.3143 late Wednesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

– 121.28 Japanese yen, up from $120.88
– 1.2427 Swiss francs, up from $1.2373
– 1.1600 Canadian dollars, down from $1.1605

The British pound traded at $1.9508, down from $1.9545.

Gold traded in London at $678.50 per troy ounce, up from $664.80 late Wednesday.

In Zurich, the bid price was US675.60, up from $659.80.

Gold rose $17.90 in Hong Kong to close at $676.60 an ounce.

Silver opened in London at $14.24 per troy ounce, up from $13.92.
