Yanzhou sets 2007 coal price for Japan utilities

China’s Yanzhou Coal Mining Co. Ltd. has agreed to sell 200,000 tonnes of thermal coal to Japanese utilities at $75 per tonne FOB, a 15 pct rise on 2006 prices but a fraction of the volume sold last year, a source familiar with the deal said on Thursday.

State has committed millions to coal projects

Even before Gov. Ernie Fletcher asked the General Assembly to approve incentives to attract coal-conversion plants to Kentucky, his administration had quietly committed at least $2.4 million to two such projects.

Altona Resources is conducting a feasibility study of the Wintinna coal deposit north of Coober Pedy.
The company hopes to begin construction on a mine and power station within 18 months.
