Cleanup to close area near mine

The area around an abandoned mine in Silverado Canyon will be shut down to clear the section of hazardous metals, officials with the Cleveland National Forest announced Friday.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection says someone broke the shaft’s concrete cap.
That opening is near several homes in Milam. It’s also near a popular gathering spot for teens.
